🐾 Gazan hospital on fire
Good morning, readers!
Today’s newsletter is ironic.
On one side of the globe: Climate activist Greta Thunberg gets arrested for protesting at a fossil fuel conference.
On the other side: Countries are blowing each other up, causing unspeakable damage to communities and the environment.
Today’s hotspots
A Gazan hospital in flames: who did it?
A huge explosion ripped through a Gaza hospital where hundreds of wounded and displaced Palestinians were sheltering, killing at least 500 people.
🔎 The blame train:
The Hamas-controlled health ministry says it was an Israeli strike.
Israel fires back, blaming a misfired rocket from Hamas.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh singles out the US for giving Israel “cover for its aggression.”
Haniyeh pointing his finger at the US for the attack on Tuesday, Oct. 17th.
The United States is responsible for the attack on a Gaza hospital that killed hundreds of Palestinians.
Mainstream media flip-flops.
Mainstream media first pointed fingers at Israel for the attack. However, many of them backpedaled on their words after Israel countered with video evidence.
🔎 Here’s one example from CNN:
👇🏻
Israel’s response.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a raw footage that shows a rocket being fired by Islamic Jihad and exploding at the same moment the Gaza hospital was hit.
Could this be because they build rockets from water pipes?
RAW FOOTAGE: A rocket aimed at Israel misfired and exploded at 18:59—the same moment a hospital was hit in Gaza.

Here’s another video they released to detail their reasoning:
A failed rocket launch by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization hit the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza City.

Half way through this video, you will see the sheer number of “misfired” Palestinian rockets that land back in Gaza:
This is the tragic result of firing rockets from densely populated neighborhoods.

Biden’s dilemma.
This issue is broader than a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
US President Joe Biden just landed in Israel, where he faces pressure from both sides of the aisle to either support or restrain Israel’s military actions.
Biden was supposed to meet with the leaders of Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority in Amman to discuss ways to end the war, but the summit was canceled after the hospital incident.
Extra.
US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib immediately jumped on the news, siding with Hamas in blaming Israel for the attack.
And then, there’s this comment:

🇩🇪 Germany:
@sara__si (X).
Chancellor Scholz’s plane evacuated amid rocket attacks in Israel.
It was supposed to be a show of solidarity, but it turned into a nightmare. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his entourage had to flee their plane and take cover on the runway as rockets rained down on Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport. Scholz was visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to support him against Hamas and urge for humanitarian aid in Gaza.
✱ NOTE: Scholz also warned Iran and Hezbollah not to interfere in the conflict, calling Hamas "the new Nazis."
🇬🇧 United Kingdom:
Greta Thunberg being taken to a police van. (X)
Greta Thunberg gets arrested for crashing an oil and gas conference.
She’s done it again. The young climate activist Greta Thunberg has stirred up a storm by protesting outside an oil and gas conference in London. She was among hundreds of demonstrators who blocked the entrances to the hotel hosting the event, which featured CEOs from big fossil fuel companies. The police arrested her and several others, but not before she called out the “spineless politicians.”
✱ NOTE: This is not the first time Thunberg has been detained or fined for her climate actions. She has also faced legal troubles in Germany and Sweden.
🇺🇸 United States:
“Pentagon releases videos of ‘coercive and risky’ behavior by Chinese jets toward U.S. planes.” (YouTube)’
China’s jets play dangerous games with US planes.
This isn’t exactly news. US pilots have been dealing with them in the skies over the East and South China Seas for a while. China has been sending its jets to buzz US planes in what the Pentagon calls “coercive and risky” behavior.
What’s new: The US has released videos and images of these close encounters to show the world how dangerous they are.
✱ NOTE: The militaries of US and China have not talked since February when the US shot down a Chinese spy balloon.
🇷🇺 Russia:
Russia fails to shield Hamas from UN condemnation.
The UN Security Council has rejected a Russian resolution that ignored Hamas’ role in the worst Jewish massacre since the Holocaust. It only condemned violence and terrorism against civilians without mentioning Hamas.
4 voted for: China, United Arab Emirates, Mozambique, and Gabon.
4 voted against: US, Britain, France, and Japan.
6 abstained.
Adoption requires at least nine votes.
✱ NOTE: A rival Brazilian resolution, which condemns Hamas and calls for humanitarian pauses, is still under negotiation.

Ukraine uses US long-range ATACMS missiles for the first time.
The US has quietly delivered long-range ballistic missiles to Ukraine, which are now being used on the battlefield. The missiles, known as ATACMS, were promised by President Biden to President Zelensky a month ago. They can hit targets up to 180 miles (around 300 kilometers) away with high accuracy and devastating power.
Their targets: Berdyansk and Luhansk.
Video above: It shows Berdyansk being struck by missiles.
✱ NOTE: The delivery of the missiles was kept secret until they were fired, catching Russia off guard and raising the stakes in the conflict.
